(First speech as delivered on Assembly)
For those who don’t know me, I’m Harriet Curtain – your Netball Captain for 2020.
Well, this year definitely hasn’t been the year for any sporting activities. Our netball season started off with both our Opens and Junior teams in the Tuesday night competition at Warwick. Both teams started off strong, winning all games and because of this our Opens team was promoted to move up to the Monday night A/B division where they’d play in a stronger competition. The Opens team showed their dominance in the new grade and had made a pleasing start to their season, then sadly, COVID-19 restrictions brought everything to a hold.
With the ever-changing circumstances we thought the season would never start again, but with great amazement, it finally did. Our first game back for the Opens was against local rivals, Assumption College and even with no training for over two months our girls shone on the court and came out with a win. Since the season restart we have been training harder than ever which has rewarded us with some wins and many lessons learned. Our next game is on Monday night against our coach’s team and one of the competition leaders, After Shocks.
The junior girls have also been training harder than ever to expand their skills and put some wins on the board. The girls have chalked up two amazing wins since coming back from the break and hope to continue this streak on Tuesday night when they come up against Shooting Stars at 6:00pm.
I would like to wish both teams good luck with these and I hope to see both teams in the final in weeks to come. Special thanks to Tiff, Mrs Ratcliffe and Mrs Wiid for coaching and training us over the past few months. We wouldn’t be here without you guys!
