A word (or two!) from Girls Boarding

Molly Turnbull | Boarding Captain
Heidi Robson | Deputy Boarding Captain

We hope everyone has had a great start to the year! It’s difficult to comprehend that we have reached the halfway mark of the term already, so before any more time gets away, we’d like to share what has been happening in Girls Boarding.

This year we welcomed 9 new boarders to our house and 2 fantastic GAP tutors, Miss Wenborn and Miss McKenzie, both from South Africa (pictured in the image above)!

We have many exciting things planned for our boarding community and also in our Glenbrae House.

The first weekend of the year we all enjoyed our first SCOTS PGC boarding social.  It was great to see many students dress up in the ‘masked’ theme.  Many won prizes for their efforts and also some excellent dance moves.  This was a brilliant activity to bring everyone together early in the term.

Our girls have also rehearsed and brainstormed ideas for the ‘New Girls Old Girls’ talent competition.   Essentially, this is a Girls Boarding tradition where each year level collaborates to perform a song, a dance or an original skit in front of the rest of girls boarding.

The Year 12s take on the role as the judges for the evening, but more importantly, they will open proceedings with the performance of the song, ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’ from the motion picture ‘Hairspray’.   This performance is very special because the song was chosen by the Year 12 cohort of 2015.

In keeping with this tradition, Year 7s were handed the song ‘Hall of Fame’ by The Script and they will perform it to the house in 5 years’ time when they are seniors.  It was chosen for its very powerful lyrics which we hope will inspire our Year 7 (and all girls in the house) to strive to be the best version of themselves whilst at SCOTS PGC College:

Yeah, you can be the greatest
You can be the best
You can be the King Kong banging on your chest

You can beat the world
You can beat the war
You can talk to God, go banging on his door

You can throw your hands up
You can beat the clock (yeah)
You can move a mountain
You can break rocks
You can be a master
Don’t wait for luck
Dedicate yourself and you gon’ find yourself

Our girls have enjoyed the busyness that the start of school brings – the Junior and Senior Swim Carnivals in the opening weeks have certainly been a highlight. Clan spirit was on full display for all to see! We look forward to the coming weeks where we have so much to look forward to.
