Year 11 Geography GIS with Councillor Neil Meiklejohn

Year 11 Geography GIS with Councillor Neil Meiklejohn

Melanie Gibbons – Humanities Teacher

Year 11 Geography students recently attended a workshop with Councillor Neil Meiklejohn to learn about the uses a Geographic Information System (GIS) has within the Southern Downs Regional Council.

The event allowed students to gain a real-world understanding of the tools and resources council use for planning and development.

Neil shared interesting insights with the students and each now has a deeper understanding of how GIS works locally, regionally and globally.

Students were also able to delve deeper into their understanding of biodiversity from the perspective of local council and discuss with Neil the opportunities studying Geography (and GIS) presents.
