A variety of results was achieved across the grades in QCIS Basketball last week. In some cases, the final score belied the closeness of the competition.
Our strongest performances came from Year 4 to 6 Girls, Year 7 to 8 Boys, and Year 9 to 10 Girls all of whom secured second place, against strong Ambrose Treacy boys and Downlands Girls teams.
Our Year 7 to 8 Girls and Open Girls finishing third in some hard fought and narrowly lost games.
The Year 9 to 10 Boys, inspired by the playing skills of Brian Chen, was unlucky not to finish higher than fourth and the Open Boys, led by the very consistent Harry Keenan, were also only a whisker away from figuring in the major play-off.
This has been a great carnival for us, and all players are to be commended on their efforts and for supporting each other when playing numbers were short, and the chips were down.
May I finish with a hearty thank you to the staff who attended on our behalf and supported our students with their ever-present high level of care and concern for their development. Thanks to Mr Retallick and Mr Anastasi for looking after our Year 9 to 10s and the Year 7 to 8 Girls, while Mr Campbell guided our Year 7 to 8 Boys.
Thank you to Mrs Stephenson for looking after our Year 4 to 6 Girls so successfully, and finally to Mr Davis, in the absence of Mr Keenan, for looking after the senior girls and boys. Without the support and guidance of these dedicated teachers and coaches, the students would not be able to attend.
